From the initial idea in 1997, through our acceptance as a registered Charitable Trust in 2000, Felixstowe based BASIC, an independent Charitable Trust, has been able to assist many groups, organisations and individuals with financial, practical and general support. We are a ‘people’ charity and believe our mission is to support those in need and to provide assistance for those who are otherwise prevented from realising their own charitable goals.
As we enter July, why not take a moment to think how lucky we are to live in such a wonderful town!
Living by the sea is such a blessing and we are always hearing about how people love to walk along the prom and enjoy the scenery.
Well, BASIC are hoping to make walking the promenade a little more rewarding on Sunday 20th July. We have organised Felixstowe’s first Walk the Walk event. It’s very simple – we are going to meet at The Manor car park, Landguard, at 2pm on the 20th July and then – walk to the ferry.
Felixstowe Sailing Club are very generously opening their doors to walkers taking part, so there will be the opportunity to have a refreshing drink at the destination! The event is free and open to all so please come along and take part.
If you are able to get sponsored it would be great and BASIC are going to donate the proceeds to the holiday club held by St.John’s Church for local children each year, so a very good cause. Traditional sponsor forms are available in both of our shops.
If you prefer to give online or remain anonymous we have a Just Giving page at http://www.justgiving.com/felixstowewalkthewalk.
We’re hoping this will become an annual event and that many people will enjoy and benefit from the walk.
Celebrity Support
BASIC are delighted to announce that we now have two celebrity patrons; Miss Tina O’Brien (Sarah Louise Platt from Coronation St, Casualty, Doctors, Strictly Come Dancing etc) and Felixstowe man Mr Simon Mayhew (West End shows 42nd Street, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang etc). Both are now offering their exclusive support to our charity.
Tina says, ‘I’m more than happy to be involved in any way I can. Your charity sounds fantastic!’ Simon enthusiastically announced, ‘I am so proud to announce that I am now a patron of The BASIC Life Charity based in my hometown of Felixstowe.’
Local Support
The management and staff of local care home Cotman House have been busy raising funds for BASIC. This has included taking part in The Felixstowe Rotary Fun Run, with member of staff, Colin McCulloch, in a ball gown!
BASIC Founder Graham Denny said the charity were ‘amazed and extremely grateful for the donation which will help the development of our work in the Felixstowe community,’
