The Blues Brothers Experience – a review
A police car parked outside the Spa Pavilion, complete with a huge loudspeaker on the roof, was a clue that the Blues Brothers Experience was in town.
Six musicians, a talented singer named Kathy and the duo of Jake and Elwood Blues, partied in true Blues Brothers style. There were crazy dance moves on stage, amazing vocals and wonderful musicianship. The duo also generously gave away some goodies to members of the audience.
Classic Blues Brother’s songs were vigorously performed including, Sweet Home Chicago, Soul Man, Gimme Some Lovin and Everybody Loves Somebody. However, songs made famous by a selection of different artists were also included in the show; Elvis’ Jail House Rock and Tammy Wynette’s Stand By Your Man to name just two.
Kathy proved a hit with the Felixstowe audience as she gave many powerful renditions of soul songs such as RESPECT, Think and Shout. Yet it was the song Shake a Tail Feather, performed by the brothers, that really got the audience up and dancing.
Dotted around the auditorium was evidence of die hard Blues Brothers fans, with both men and women wearing shades and sporting trilby or pork pie hats. In addition, there was some lively banter between fans in the front row and the Blues Brothers duo; much of which the duo seemed to embrace.
With all the madness that comes with a Blues Brothers performance, this show was truly entertaining, enjoyable and a must for all those who adored the cult film and the music.
