News from Felixstowe Coastwatch
It has been a busy and exciting start to the year for Felixstowe Coastwatch, working from atop Martello Tower ‘P’ at Martello Park on the seafront. Hard work and long hours by our dedicated volunteers have resulted in two new services for users of Felixstowe beach and sea in the form of a live streaming webcam and an online weather station. Both these fantastic new tools can be easily accessed from the home page of our website at http://www.coastwatch-felixstowe.co.uk/
A recent incident highlighted the importance that Felixstowe Coastwatch plays in maintaining the safety of beach and sea users. A kayaker issued a Mayday after capsizing near the entrance to the Orwell and needed urgent assistance. Our duty watchkeepers intercepted and relayed the radio message that the coastguard was unable to hear, and the kayaker was subsequently rescued by the Harwich Lifeboat.
Following on from the previous two years’ successful music events, make a note in your diary for the best yet. ‘Live at the Ferry!’ will take place at Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club at 7-30pm on 20th May. Tickets are available for £8 from Alan Peck on 01473 251171 or Ian Clarke on 01394 285305.
Finally, don’t forget to check for the flag on the lookout – if it’s flying, we are watching!
