Singer and Songwriter, Gussie Stafford

Tell us who you are and how old you are…

Hi, I’m Gussie Stafford and I’m 18 years old.

How long have you lived in Felixstowe?

I have lived here, gosh…. Since I was about 5 years old.

What’s your favourite thing about Felixstowe?

I really like the scenery and I love the beach. It’s small but it’s not so small that you can’t be your own person. There are a lot of people out there who are willing to give singers like myself the opportunity to sing at an open mic event or a charity event. That brings me to your next question…

What do you?

I’m currently between education, working and singing. Singing is my passion and I’ll be starting college in September to do a music course at Suffolk One. At the moment I’m looking for part-time work to subsidise the gigs I sing at.

How long have you been singing for?

Since I could! I’ve always sung. W hen I got into high school I entered a talent competition which a good friend encouraged me to do. I never stopped singing and I think my friend got annoyed with me, so they helped me enter the competition (laughs). Since the competition a lot of people have asked me to sing for them at their events. After that I didn’t push too much, but when I hit 14, I really wanted to push the singing and performing at more events.

What are your goals with your singing?

I would really like it to be a career for me. I’d love to go on tour and be able to perform for a living.

How would you describe yourself and your music?

My music kind of comes from the heart. It’s truthful – it’s about stories that have happened around me. I’m a bit soulful I guess and there’s some pop. I’ve never been able to put myself in a genre. There are many of my songs I have been waiting to get recorded. That’s one of the things I want to achieve in 2015, making a good album.

Do you write your own music?

I do. After going on Felixstowe TV I did an interview and thanks to the support of Mark Buche I now have a CD which has four of my original songs. You’ll have to listen to my music to find out what you think.

Where can people hear or buy your music, or even book you for a gig/event?

They can check out my YouTube channel and Facebook page to hear the music. To book for a gig or event, they can email me or message me on Facebook (details below). I’m also a presenter on Flx Radio on Saturday at 3pm, so folks can email me there: studio@felixstoweradio.org.uk

Do you have any claims to fame?

I used to be a Sea Cadet and Princess Anne opened up the new docks and I did a rifle drill f or her. She was sitting right in front of me and I had a rifle in her face (laughs). She was probably thinking, “I’m so happy there’s no bullets in that rifle!” To get in touch with the lovely Gussie or listen to her music, here are her details and links:
