BASIC Life Charity – April update
At the time of writing, the writer has just cleared a large amount of frost from his windscreen before heading into work – we hope by the time Felixstowe Magazine pops through your door the weather will be a bit more ‘spring like’!
March was a very busy time for BASIC with all kinds of things happening:-
Ralph was a well-known local resident who passed away suddenly during early March. His family, who were unable to pay for his funeral, approached Amanda at Stressless, Walton for assistance.
Amanda in turn approached us and we opened a Just Giving page where we requested assistance from the community. Our opening target of £1500 was reached in just THREE days! We raised it to £2000 and again this new target was reached just TWO days later!
We also received donations at both of our shops and some were made directly to the undertaker, David Button, Walton (who had offered a much-reduced service) – making a total to date, of close to £3000!
It is so touching to see our wonderful community at work to help each other and we know Ralph’s family are so very touched.
We wonder what Ralph himself would have thought and we’re sure he would have been surprised to know how highly he was thought of by those who knew him – and didn’t.
Jake and the staff at Anchor Bakery, High Road East, Felixstowe approached us with the offer of FREE, yes free, bakery products!
These are items which have been freshly baked but unsold and are still in great condition. We have been collecting and distributing them twice a week and passing on to those in need in our community.
The slight dilemma had been ‘how can we pass on fresh produce to those in the most need’. Hmm – well we have started to register users of our food bank and have formed an ‘information tree’ so when fresh produce is available we can advise those customers.
If you are a food bank user please register with us (we only need a first name and telephone number or email address) and we’ll add you. We will also advise when bakery products are available via our Facebook page.
At the moment we can only offer the bakery products at our Walton shop.
The fantastic people who make up the Trimley Carnival Committee are working hard to make this year’s event another success.
BASIC were selected to receive a donation from the 2015 event at their open day on March 12th – a massive thank you for selecting us!
Please support the 2016 event which will be on Saturday 9th July with a theme of ‘Rule Britannia – Queen and Country’ in celebration of Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.
If you haven’t been involved why not contact one of the committee members and offer your help?
BASIC Fashion Show!
We will be holding our first BASIC fashion show on Saturday 28th May at Seaton Road Church Hall – The items modelled will all come from donated items and we’ll have refreshments, a raffle and much more.
Tickets will be just £3 and will be available at both of our shops or via Sarah on 07454 812078. The models themselves will be our staff including Angela, Becki and yes…Graham! So if you fancy a fun night out please get in touch. More details next month.
Have a great April!
